LEGISLATION
Kirkland minoxidil is not registered in the Netherlands or elsewhere in Europe.
Minoxidil is a medicine and in the Netherlands A medicine may only be sold if it is registered with the competent authorities. In the Netherlands, this is the Medicines Evaluation Board (CBG).
Kirkland Minoxidil products are not registered, which means there is no supervision of production, transport, storage, side effects, or quality.
Under the Medicines Act, it is prohibited to import or market Kirkland minoxidil.
EFFICACY
Because there is no supervision, the quality of Kirkland products cannot be guaranteed. With minoxidil is this important because it is sensitive to temperature.
Minoxidil is a so-called "ambient" product. This means it should be stored at room temperature.
Efficacy may be affected by:
· high temperatures (above 25°C)
· low temperatures (below 5°C)
If a product enters Europe outside the official, controlled distribution chain, it is not known:
· where it comes from, is it real or not,
· how it was transported (container, plane, other),
· how long it has been warm or cold (for example in a container or the hold of an aircraft),
· whether the storage was correct.
This is especially important for minoxidil foam . Foam products are more sensitive to temperature fluctuations because the composition of the foam and the propellant must also remain stable.
If storage or transportation was not correct, the product may not perform as well . This can happen even if the product appears normal from the outside.
SAFETY
If Kirkland minoxidil products enter Europe or the Netherlands through illegal channels, no recall is possible in the event of contamination or quality problems.
Subsequently, complaints or side effects are not registered and points of sale of these products do not comply with the regulations for (online) sales of medicines.
Finally, minoxidil foam is packaged in pressurized packaging. This requires additional measures for safe transport and storage.
